The Monastery of Santa Fe. Aragon. Spain.

In 1223 Jaime I founded the Cistercian monastery of Fonclara, term of Albalate de Cinca (Huesca).

This monastery had a vitality of little more than a century and a half. Because their monks were bothered by outlaws when they were in a border with Catalonia, it was when they moved to Santa Fe.

Santa Fe was founded by Miguel Perez Zapata (son of Juan Perez Zapata, justice of Aragon) on an unspecified date.
The foundation carried it out in gratitude for having freed Pedro IV (1336-1387) from the Castilian prisons, after having fallen prisoner in the battle of Fitero.

There are those who place the foundation of Santa Fe in 1341, based on a certain ancient work by the monk Juan Álvaro, who proposes that year for the transfer of the monks of Fonclara; but the transfer did not happen then, since in 1345, according to a parchment of the Archive of the Cathedral of Lleida, Fonclara still had full activity. Also in the convocation of the "religious arm" for the Cortes Generales! of the years 1362, 1375 and 1404 the abbot of Fonclara was summoned; although to those of the last year, neither attended nor was excused.
