Las Cuencas Mineras es una de las diez comarcas en las que se divide la provincia de Teruel. Las localidades más importantes son Montalban, Utrillas, Escucha y Muniesa. Tradicional zona minera, no solo hay minas de carbón, sino de lignito, hierro, yeso, plomo y sal. Esta zona ha estado habitada desde antaño. Desde los poblados prehistóricos de Santa Barbara o Alacón, han pasado la mayoria de los pueblos que han conquistado la Península Ibérica. Formo parte de las Taifas de Zaragoza y Alfajarin, hasta la reconquista de Alfonso II. Este tuvo que construir castillos y fortalezas para no perder el territorio. De aquí viene la torre defensiva de Castel de Cabra, ahora torre de la iglesia. Este aspecto también ayudo a la proliferanción de castillos, ermitas, iglesias de todos los estilos y casas palaciegas, ya que en tiempos de la reconquista se le daba a los nobles las tierras que conquistaban para que aportaran dineros a la corona. La guerra civil española se vivio con crudeza en este territorio, y aun es posible ver barricadas hechas con piedra en los montes cercanos. |
