This Basilica was declared a National Monument in 1904.
In 1771, Goya was commissioned to paint some sketches for the vault of the Coreto of the Basilica of Our Lady of Pilar, in Zaragoza.
Thus in 1772, Goya realized the fresco Adoration of the Name of God for the Coreto, where he placed the characters in successive planes of clouds, thus creating perspective.
The Queen of Martyrs (Regina Martyrum), painted in 1780/81.
Technique, fresco / wall. It is located in a dome of the north aisle.
Cupula "Queen of Martyrs".
It represents the Virgin Queen surrounded by angels, martyrs and saints (mainly Aragonese).
They stand out among the saints San Lorenzo, Santa Engracia, San Valero, San Pedro, San Pablo and Santo Dominguito de Val.
Las Pechinas: La Fe, La Paciencia, La Fortaleza y La Caridad painted in 1781.
Technique, fresco/wall.
They represent with allegories the moral virtues.
The broken way, with sudden zigzag strokes, justifies the irritation of Bayeu who seemed a revolutionary way of painting.
In it is a sketch of the dome of the Queen of Martyrs made by Goya.
