In the pendentives of the Church of San Juan Bautista or del Real one of the magnificent series of the Fathers of the Church is preserved, which Goya painted in his youth.
Goya decorated the pendentives of the dome that covers the transept of the church of San Juan Bautista around 1766, with the series "Los Padres de la Iglesia".
This is an iconography that Goya uses for the first time in this bilbilitano temple, although later it will be retaken in Muel and Swirls with some variations. It is a work of youth, whose pale hue reminds the Italian Rococo.
The church of San Juan Bautista belongs to the old seminary of the Jesuits. Its cover, in stone, is dated in 1534, although the building is later. The façade and the exterior structure are reminiscent of the church of Santiago, of Zaragoza.
It is a building with a single nave, with a marked transept and a flat head, where the trigorium is covered with vault of lunettes. It has side chapels between the buttresses. The head is covered with cannon vault, decorated with a large shell, and the cruise with a dome on pendentives, with flashlight and windows in the soffit. Externally, the dome is covered with polychrome tiles.
The tower is square in its lower bodies, which goes to octagonal in the upper, and is topped with a bulbous capital of slate.
The interior was decorated in the mid-eighteenth century, with pilasters with composite capital, showing the keys of the ship medallions with figures of angels, and the testero medallones con los saints. The Greater Altarpiece, and those of San Francisco Javier, the Immaculate and the Holy Christ, are worth mentioning.
