Alquezar, declared Historic preservation, preserved to this day the medieval charm of its streets and houses. Located in Vero last river canyon in a landscape truly impressive.

Monuments

Top of the collegiate church, the ancient Moorish castle. Below the village is clustered in crescent-shaped to best symbolize the Arab origin of the population. Not for nothing is named after the castle and Al-Qasr was built to defend access to the capital of the Barbitanya (Barbastro).

In 1099, the Aragonese King Sancho Ramírez Alquézar endowed a community of Augustinian canons and on this occasion he built a Romanesque collegiate church that has reached us only the atrium, decorated with capitals historians. Romanic in origin, and now Gothic is the cloister, whose walls were decorated with a cycle of mural paintings that narrate scenes from the childhood of Jesus and were repainted until the eighteenth century.

In the first half of the sixteenth century they built the present Collegiate Church of Santa Maria, Juan de Segura, who also designed the Barbastro Seo.
In the seventeenth century the interior was enriched with a beautiful altarpiece of gilded wood and polychrome, next to the aesthetics of the Baroque, and new chapels like Lecina. A chapel was incorporated into a Christ carved in wood, popularly known as the Christ of Lecina splendid sculpture carried out in the twelfth century progressed, the model responds typologically Romanesque crucifix.
