Piedra is the name of the river that, in the southwest of the province of Zaragoza, forms a natural landscape, whose beauty attracts thousands of daily visitors.
The Monastery, founded in 1194 by thirteen Poblet monks, in the old castle of Piedra Vieja, was dedicated to Santa Maria de la Blanca and, as a whole, has been declared a National Monument.
The construction of the monastery passed through three stages: the primitive gothic (XIII th century); Gothic Renaissance (XVIth century) and classical-Baroque (XVIII century).
The walled enclosure was accessed by the Medieval Tower of Homage and the church, destroyed in the first decades of 1800, communicated with the open cloister of large pointed arches, and the different dependencies.
The beautiful chapter house (early twelfth century) was the nerve center of monastic life and the cells were housed in the building (17th century),
now converted into a comfortable hotel.
The Romanesque columns of the old Abbey Palace support the new palace, of neoclassical style, built in the eighteenth century.
It is located 118 km from Zaragoza, following the Aragón highway (N-II), in the direction of Madrid, it continues until Calatayud , where Take the road that leads to Nuevalos (C-202), 2 km away is the Monastery.
The Monumental Complex and the Natural Park can be visited every day,

There are guided tours of the Monastery, dating from the 13th century, where the building's premises and the customs of the Cistercian monks are explained.
The Wine Museum of the Denomination of Origin of Calatayud is located in the old cellars of the monastery, taking a walk through the world of the wines of the region.
For its route it has several itineraries indicated with directional arrows to make them on foot, being able to visit, the grotto Iris, Horsetail, Cascade of the Trinity, the Vadillos, among other natural beauties.
The Pisciculture Interpretation Center of the park is the first center of this type of Spain (1866) with educational workshops of touch, hearing and smell that bring us closer to the life of the River Piedra.
The Park has stables for the practice of horse riding, playground, restaurants and shops.
You also have a literary tour in the series "Los Monasterios Aragoneses".
The Monasterio Natural Park are very remarkable and the Tranquera Reservoir, where water sports are practiced, is 2 km away.
Calatayud (the Roman Bilbilis) is capital on the route of the Mudejar art .
Spa tourism is centered in Jaraba, Paracuellos de Jiloca and Alhama de Aragon.
