Middle Ages

Its more remote origins take us to the remains of a settlement of the Middle Bronze found on the west side of the castle.
But the current population has medieval origin, through the jurisdiction of Alfambra, of 1174, where conditions favorable to the repopulation of this part of the Aragonese Extremadura were collected.
Also important was this unique fortress in the shape of a ship for Jaime I, as he gathered his army here to march towards Valencia.

Another noteworthy feature was the dominance of the Military Orders, since the one of Monte Gaudio replaced that of the Holy Redeemer, and that of the Temple in 1196, and for 121 years.
Al Temple replaced the Order of Saint John of the Hospital (Order of Malta), until his disappearance in the 18th century
