PARISH CHURCH OF THE ASSUMPTION

Architectural Style: Mudejar (Gothic).
Date of Construction: 14th-15th centuries, finishing its construction in 1426.
Description of the property: Church-fortress built by the master Muhammad Rami, with a single nave, three sections, a polygonal apse and side chapels between the buttresses, on which runs a tribune characteristic of the churches-fortress Mudejars. The roof is simple ribbed. The choir has a decorated and painted alfarje with heraldic and geometric motifs, and a plaster inscription that reads the master builder and the year of completion of the church. The entire interior is profusely decorated with painted agrilados that completely cover the walls and the real structure of the church, and plasterwork on the windows and on the parapet of the choir, with geometric and plant motifs. The exterior presents the typology of a fortress with two towers - buttresses and a walkway. The cover is Gothic with plasterwork.
Materials Used: Brick, stone, plaster and wood.
Conservation status: The restoration work is aimed at recovering Mudejar motifs such as the painting in the apse hidden by another from the Baroque period and at consolidating the one that covers the entire nave and is original to the 15th century, in the same way as most of the plasterwork (windows, choir parapet...) and the lower choir cladding. Only the flooring has been replaced, since the original was no longer recoverable. The conservation of so many ornamental motifs from the period is exceptional and has only occurred in a small number of monuments such as the churches of Tobed or Torralba de Ribota.
