El veinte de Octubre de 1.963 Adolfo Castillo Genzor, citando a Piferrer, escribía sobre las Armas o Escudo de Novillas, diciendo que llevaba dos vacas o novillas por adecuarse a la etimología gramatical del nombre de la Villa.
Decía también que el soporte del Escudo era el Aguila de S. Juan, por haber estado esta Villa sujeta a los Sanjuanistas desde 1.312 a 1.821.
Sin embargo, creo, según mi modo de entender, respetando además todas las opiniones, que el Escudo de Novillas procede del blasón de armas o escudo de la familia Borja, pues D. Pedro de Atarés, Gran Señor de Borja, lo fue también de esta Villa.
Y ambos escudos: el de la familia Borja y el de Novillas son idénticos:
DOS VACAS DE GULES, PUESTAS EN PALO SOBRE CAMPO DE ORO
Puede tambien entenderse que las vacas que tienen los Escudos representan las VACAS DE BEARNE; pues D. Pedro de Atarés estubo casado con Dª Garcenda de Bearne, hija de D. Gastón de Bearne y Dª Talesa.
Así mismo lo que se refiere al Aguila de San Juan, tampoco tiene mucha consistencia, pues aquí en Novillas, en una tabla del siglo XVIII, tenemos un Escudo representado con un Yelmo y no con un Aguila.
