It was extended with the inclusion in 1982 of AÑISCLO CANYON, ESCUAÍN GORGES and the PERDIDO MASSIF, and given the name NATIONAL PARK OF ORDESA AND MONTE PERDIDO. Its total area is of 15074 ha. Around it, there are other valleys of great beauty: PINETA, BUJARUELO, OTAL, VIO, BARROSETA, permanently watched by the three sorores: the peaks of Monte Perdido (3355 m.), Cilindro and Soum de Ramond.
ORDESA. Typical U-shaped glacial valley, surrounded by rocky bands: Pelay, Mondarruego, Tozal del Mayo, El Gallinero. The waters of the river Arazas form the cascades of Torrombotera, Molinieto, Arco Iris, Arripas, del Estrecho, Gradas de Soaso and the spectacular COLA DE CABALLO (Horse's Tail). The exceptional fauna includes the Pyrenean goat or bucardo -a jewel that is only to be found in Ordesa-, ibexes, quebrantahuesos (bearded vultures), golden eagles, marmots and otters. We find forests of fir, pine and centenarian beech trees.
