The ROMANESQUE ART IN ARAGON: SERRABLO.

Serrablo

During the 11th century many Romanesque churches were built in the Serrablo area. Their most remarkable feature is the intense Mozarabic influence.

Mozarabic art, developed by the Christians in times of the Muslim dominion, is prior to the apparition of Romanesque art. So, for example, the Mozarabic part of San Juan de la Peña, dates back to the beginning of the 10th century.

However, this original mixing of styles that the churches of Serrablo show, happened almost two centuries later, becoming an special chapter in Romanesque art.

On the left bank of the river Gállego, between Sabiñánigo and Biescas, we can admire well-preserved examples, all of them declared Monuments of Cultural Interest: San Bartolomé de Gavín, Otal, Oliván, Susín, San Juan de Busa, San Pedro de Lárrede, Satué...
