Cuba is a town of the High Maestrazgo. Located very close to the limit with the province of Castellon.

The Municipality of La Cuba is close to the Valley, collecting the waters from the northern slope of the high maestrazgo, (Cantavieja, Mirambel and Tronchón), heading towards Forcall.

It is the lowest place of altitude of this whole region of Turolense and it shows in its vegetation.

In the upper area, the Hermitage of San Cristobal is located and in a high point, but in the middle slope, the Church of San Miguel.

Its boundaries border Mirambel, Mata de Morella (Castellón) and Portell de Morella (Castellón).

Cuba is located on a slope of the Muela Monchen (Sistema Ibérico). The river that bears the name of the town is the border with the province of Castellón.

History

In 1242 the master of the Order of the Temple granted a letter to La Cuba, its origin is prior to the Reconquest because in the Commendation of King Alfonso II to the Templars, Cuba is mentioned as one of the seven peoples that made up the Baylia.

Monuments of Interest

- The Parochial Church of San Miguel XVII century:

It is located at the top of the town, the current temple was built in 1752, it is in the Baroque style, made of handwork and stonework. The tower is attached to the left side of the façade, two bodies stand out in relation to it, the first with a square plan and a clock, the second with rounded edges and four hollows with semicircular arches and a stone capital for the bells. Inside there are three naves and a transept with barrel vaults and with lunettes

- City Council:

Corner building with a trapezoidal floor, there is a fish market with reduced arches on the ground floor.

On the first floor there is the meeting room as well as a file room.The street vendors are located in the market of the street vendors.

The square:

The "Pelleric" is an exagonal rock where it is said that there used to be a trunk where the gallows was placed.

Hermitage of San Cristobal XVI century:

Little is known about it, it is said that it was the ordeal since from the Church the cemetery road rises directly and very close at the top is the hermitage. It has been restored by the townspeople and children of the town who no longer live in it.

At 12 noon on Sunday of the Summer Festival a Mass is celebrated by the Bishop of Zaragoza Alfonso, son of La Cuba.

- Laundry:

There are two laundries, one next to the fountain, very large and the other is a little further away but on the same road.

It's very recent, a picnic area was built next to it.

- Casco Urbano:

You will be able to appreciate its old houses full of stories, its inhabitants, its customs and you will enjoy a full and healthy disconnection and tranquility of its streets.

Customs and gastronomy

A custom of this town is the dance called "Las Vueltas", is performed around the Town Hall in the town square, where the waiters with their partner danced around the square.

Like Gastronomy we can say that it is necessary to emphasize, "Meat to the Shepherdess", cooked of potatoes with meat and normal condiments, this is accompanied by a wine, cognac or brandy.

It is also typical throughout the Maestrazgo region the "coquettes" stuffed with angel hair or pumpkin jam, or "the mostachones" which are round pastries like cookies that are taken at breakfast or with sweet wine.
