Although there is historical evidence of the existence of a previous castle, the castle that is currently preserved was built by Archbishop García Fernández de Heredia (1392-1411).
It was another Archbishop, Dalmao de Mur y Cervellon, who continued and expanded the construction of the castle (1431-1456) in its highest parts. Thus, on the ground and first floor you can see the coat of arms of the first Archbishop, and on the second floor you can see the coat of arms of Dalmao de Mur y Cervello.
The last person to inhabit the castle was J.Cebrian (1655).
You can visit the following elements of the castle:
The Matarraña valley was reconquered in 1169 by Alfonso II.
Valderrobles was then, "La Peña Aznar Lagaya" and was granted to the bishopric of Zaragoza, which was then held by Pedro Torroja. In turn, the Zaragoza council decided to subinfeud "La Peña" to Fortún Robert, with the condition that he repopulate it. The population chart dates back to 1183.
According to Castillo Genzor: "The possession of Valderrobres passed from Fortún Robert to his daughter Sancha, and to his nephew Matalón de Frescano. Until 1237, it would remain in their descendants, until Lope Guillermo de Oteyza bought the other part their rights, leaving the Oteyzas as the sole lords of Valderrobres. This family retained the lordship of Valderrobres.
