The riverside is a very particular environment. First, the soils are different, since they are usually made up of alluvial deposits.
The almost constant presence of water allows the development, in a climate that otherwise would not allow it, of deciduous trees with tender leaves. Finally, the avenues that can drag the plants or produce floods constitute another of the environmental pressures that riverbank trees and shrubs must face.
Both the availability of water and the effects of the avenues decrease as we move away from the banks of the river, so that the riverside communities are arranged in strips according to their resistance to these pressures.
The willow tree, usually shrubby or arborescent, is the most demanding in humidity and resistant to the current, entering even in the river pebbles.
It is followed by the aliseda, which seeks even contact with water and also withstands frequent flooding.
Choperas and fresnedas are not usually flooded and the olmeda is the least demanding in humidity.
It is rare to be able to find the complete series with the four links of the "chain", but there are at least two.
